Our impact investors help us support incredible nonprofits throughout NC.
These nonprofits are doing the kind of courageous, compassionate work that brings light into the darkest places.
One of these, which we’re honored to partner with, is Onehope Refuge. They are dedicated to helping women and children who have escaped the horrors of human trafficking (i.e., modern slavery).
Modern Slavery, Right Here in North Carolina
It’s hard to imagine, but trafficking isn’t just a global crisis. It’s happening here in our own communities. Women and children are being exploited, often in silence, without access to the safety or support they need.
That’s why Onehope Refuge’s work matters so much. They’re stepping in where others won’t, offering protection, healing, and hope to women and children who have been the victims of unfathomable cruelty.
According to their website, “Hundreds of thousands of individuals are trafficked every year in the United States. Of the 1% who are identified, few receive care. 80% of survivors end up being revictimized if they do not have a safe place to go.”
Meet Jill Kearney from Onehope Refuge
When we think of Onehope Refuge, we think of its founder, Jill Kearney.
According to Jill’s own words, Onehope Refuge is “guided by the belief in Jesus Christ’s power to bring hope and healing to break generational cycles of trauma.”
Jill’s passion for supporting victims of modern slavery is clear when you meet her. It’s easy to feel her sincerity and genuineness when speaking with her.
Helping these women and children is dangerous stuff, and she knows that.
But she didn’t wade into these waters lightly, having spent a lot of time getting trained and equipped for the work she does.
So, when Jill approached us about some property needs she had, we were honored to assist.
A Project with Lasting Impact
Our project with Onehope Refuge started close to a year ago, and it has been a significant undertaking.
That’s because we’re developing a property for them, one on which we will build their headquarters, training facility, and program housing.
These houses and facilities will be used to care for victims of human trafficking for years to come, offering shelter, stability, and dignity to those beginning a new chapter.
A Project with Lasting Impact
Onehope Refuge is providing a lifeline for women and children who have suffered unspeakable atrocities.
And we get to partner with them by constructing buildings that will be used for transformation and healing. But this partnership is only possible because of our impact investors, who enable us to work alongside Onehope Refuge and other local nonprofits.
If you’re looking for a way to invest in something that truly impacts our community for the better, we invite you to join us.
